My memories, experiences and adventures while studying abroad in New Zealand, the Land of the Long White Cloud

blog is back!

yeee i am excited :) i realized i need to continue blogging, tis a great thing! i really mainly like being able to share goodies and things i feel worth a glance .. cheers!

live music, tramping, surf .. life is goood

so this week was kinda long with finals and what not doing on but friday :) went to see The Naked & Famous at the Auckland Town Hall. This group just won at the New Zealand Music Awards single of the Year, best Group, breakthrough artist of the year & best alternative album .. oh AND Best Music Video for Punching In A Dream. So looks like I picked the right go to go see ay? Saturday we headed off to hike Pirongia, which was real muddy and crazy. I compared the roads in new zealand to the trails here the other day, totally unexpecting with no prior warning of what your getting yourself into hah. That night we drove to Raglan for the night, which is the definition of a surfers town. We saw an awesome band from auckland, unknown peace, perform which had one of the most entertaining crowds imaginable. The next day raglan beachessss are outrageous. Waves bigger than any I have seen in New Zealand and just the coastline stretching as long as you can see. The weather was not liking us to surf though, bummer but what can you expect from new zealand. Also funny how things workout sometimes, all the hostels were booked in the town by the time we got there so we ended up having to stay in a hotel room. Just snuck the whole group in, paying for a room for 2 obviously, and ended up paying less than we woulda at a hostel. Oh and did I forget to mention this was nicest hotel in the town by far, overlooking the water with amazing views over the balcony for less than a room filled with strangers, sweettt :) While we were bummin around the town centre, we found our way to “The Pink Palace” which was a home studio of artist, Robert Currie, better known as Robert of Raglan. This guy was such an inspiring person, after inviting us into his home studio, showing us his work, signing each individual painting we got with a personalized note, he then brought up a dvd with his picture on it I had inquried about. He told me it was a documentarty made about his life after he became a motivational speaker. Robert suffered 2 strokes while in his 20’s, and after re-training his brain to make a full recovery, he then is unfortunate enough to experience 2 cardiac arrests, and then prostate cancer .. and was still standing to tell about it. This guy, although a little cookey, was a true joy and I totally could tell he liked me too :) He gave us all a hug when we left his place and preciously gave me a kiss on the cheek. I was so touched by this guys openess to people coming into his home to enjoy his artwork and company, and hopefully if i am able to make it back to raglan I can stop by for a helloo. Also while in raglan we stopped at bridal veil falls,a 55m plunging waterfall, steller to say the least. Anywho this is my last week in auckland! so crazy i am blown about at where the time went. Had to say my first goodbye the other day to my flatmate, Kamil, who is from Poland and just left to embark on his journey around the south island and then australia. Unfortunately we don’t cross paths on our trips, so had to bid farewell knowing we could not see each other for a veryy long time, something I have yet to experience an international “goodbye” if you will. I have loved my time here, but the best is yet to come :) I’m so excited to start traveling around the south island for almost 3 weeks, and then I’ll take a flight from Christchurch to Wellington in the beginning of Dec. and have a week to make it back up to Auckland before I fly out to go to Fijiiii<3 i shall try my best to blog before leaving and update on my last week here, if not at least the suspense of not writing will keep you on the edge of your seat ;)
